[ I *heart* NYC ] Transformation by Photographer Mike Ruiz

Last night I attended the gallery opening of celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz at the Leslie/Lohman Gallery in Soho, NY.

One of my makeup artists, Frances Hathaway, collaborated with Mike on one of the images on display. The 20 archival custom prints were specially selected for their trans-formative quality and lustrous interpretation as designed by Mike and offer a considerable overview of his career. Mike is currently being filmed for the upcoming Logo reality series — The A List: New York – in which he is one of he six gay NY’rs whose lives are being filmed — airing in the fall. Needless to say the room was filled with camera crews, photographers, and lots ofΒ  “pretty” boys. πŸ˜‰

Some of the images displayed. Though the RuPaul one is a little vulgar, I find it hilarious. Me and Frances to the left β€’ Mike Ruiz and Frances to the right

“Whole lotta sexy…From Brooke to Tyra Banks, J Lo to Jenna Jameson, Dolly to Dita Von Teese–few do cool so hot, even fewer capture the glamorous inner sinner imagination of todays extravagant enigmas than New York based high-octane celebrity and fashion photographer Mike Ruiz. Innately intuitive, a deft-eye for detail and full of sensual self-styled sizzle, Mike marries the sacred and profound in sophisticated unison. With a unique approach to the exploration of visceral brilliance, his finely crafted frames of reference have appeared in Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveler, Interview, Italian Elle, Spanish and Brazilian Vogue. Additionally, Mike has contributed to D&Gs Hollywood book and Iman’s The Beauty of Color beauty book and continues to explore different forms of expression via film, television and music. As founding partner of elite L.A photography complex Miauhaus Studios, Mike further cements the reckless glamour of his noisy impunity to never follow trends. Vive la difference! The powerful pleasure of perfection never felt so fabulous.”

The show is open until August 28th.

[ I *heart* NYC] Happy 2 Year Anniversary

My, My, My, where has the time flown! It’s hard to believe that I have kept myself grounded in New York City for 2 years. Last year I rejoiced in having made it through the biggest “leap on faith”.

Today I am rejoicing in the simple fact that the Lord has continued to bless me.

I have realized that I AM a city girl.

Trains, people, noise all agree with me.
Have found a new LOVE for reading
Gotten addicted to Ice coffee, Cabs, Editing in the park
Perfected the art of “traveling light”
Walked from 23rd-130th street just because
Realized I do not “think with child” and I am ok with that. πŸ™‚
Attended so many fabulous “free” events
Fallen in love with ANYTHING passion fruit.
Lost some loved one
Single + Loving it

Since last year I have been living the best of both worlds. As many of you know I am originally from Florida and my family still resides there.Β  Business has kept me busy and allows me to travel there every 5-6 weeks. Being able to work and see my family has been the best part of this year. I know Pearly appreciates it. πŸ˜‰

I’m still living in Harlem (which I love). I have explored my neighborhood and have realized my favorite avenue has to be Amsterdam. Within the past year Olinka and Louie have moved within blocks of me so having Harlem buddies has been ubber delightful! I am still waiting for Drenita, Raquel, and Melissa to make their way over but I know that will happen in due time. πŸ˜‰

JUMP Management has been keeping me busy and I finally feel like I know the “biz”. I can negotiate deals with confidence, man the office, and scout new talent all on my own. My NY parents De+Frances have continued to be extremely supportive and loving.Β  I really don’t know what I would have done without them. πŸ™‚

So many friends have come to visit this past year its hard to keep count and my calender has yet to become dull. Friends if you are reading do continue to come and visit!! πŸ™‚

My relationship with NY is becoming stronger then ever and I think soon I will be able to fully commit. By commit I mean getting a NY State License, that a big deal to me! Miami is still and will always be my “home” but she has a tough competitor because this city is stealing my heart more and more everyday.

    Happy 2nd Anniversary my love.

[I *heart* NYC] Society Cafe + Summer Stages

@Mirrs2 came to visit me and of course I had to show her a good time. I had been hearing great things about Society Cafe on 114 and Fredrick Douglas so we decided to go give it a try.

Mirrs opted for Stuffed French Toast with a Mimosa while I picked Red Velvet Waffles, eggs, and turkey bacon.

    Delish. Delish. Delish.

The waffles were delightful but a bit to sweet, I think I would have them again for dessert.

…and the turkey bacon.. nom.nom.nom… I could eat all day! πŸ˜‰

After we stuffed our faces we walked over to 72 + Park to enjoy an afternoon of good music courtesy of Β Summer Stages.

    .

And a fabulous afternoon it was!

I was EXTRA excited when they announced my newest favorite artist

    Miguel Jontel ( @migmoney @teammiguel) was performing!!
